We started the Informal sector pensions foundation to support projects regarding informal sector pensions and savings. As a team we previously worked at People’s Pension Holding. In that capacity we were part of the founding and support team of Peoples Pension Trust, a micro pension company in Ghana.

Gerard Bergsma

Gerard is an international executive with experience and senior positions in asset management, treasury and insurance in The Netherlands, Central and Eastern Europe, USA and Japan.
Gerard got involved in micro pensions 8 years ago and developed his passion for savings for the informal sector. In 2016 he co-founded People’s Pension Holding and People’s Pension Trust Ghana. Until the end of 2020 he was CEO of PPH when all remaining activities have been transferred to PPT Ghana. The PPH team now continues their work from the Foundation.

Marijn Bergsma
Treasurer
For the past decade Marijn has worked in the social business and impact finance space across Africa. He started his own business in Tanzania developing credit scoring models for lenders; managed an investor & entrepreneur network; was investment manager for a social venture participation company; worked with NGOs on all aspects related to (social) entrepreneurship; and invested privately. He is currently director of SNAP Rwanda, working on automated saving for coffee farmers.

Willianne van der Weijde
Secretary
Willianne got involved in informal sector pensions in 2017. Working for many years in operational and business support roles joined People’s Pension Holding (PPH). She performed research on micro pensions spend supported People’s Pension Trust in Ghana. With the foundation she continues the journey on supporting projects regarding informal sector pensions and savings.
